Telegram Quick Start
The Telegram channel connects a Telegram bot to Resool, so every private message customers send to your bot lands in the shared inbox next to WhatsApp, Instagram and email. You connect it with the bot token Telegram's @BotFather gives you, and Resool sets up the bot's webhook automatically. Telegram has no reply window, so your team can answer at any time.
What you can do with Telegram
In the Inbox
- Receive private messages sent to your bot as conversations, including photos, video, voice messages and files.
- Reply with text, images and files at any time. Telegram has no reply window.
On the channel
- Open a chat with your bot in one click to test it.
- Refresh the connection if the bot's webhook was changed elsewhere.
Before you begin
- A Telegram account to create and own the bot.
- A bot token from @BotFather. Telegram bots can only be connected with their token, so this channel uses one instead of a sign-in.
- In Resool, only workspace Owners and Admins can connect channels. Telegram counts as one channel toward your plan's limit.
How to create a bot and get its token
- In Telegram, open @BotFather (the official bot with a blue check mark).
- Send
/newbot. Choose a display name, then a username that ends inbot(for exampleAcmeSupportBot). - BotFather replies with your bot token. It looks like
123456789:AAH….
Already have a bot? Send /mybots, pick the bot and open API Token to see its token.
How to connect Telegram to Resool
- Go to
Settings › Channelsand click Add Channel. - On the Business Messaging tab, find Telegram and click Connect.
- The Connect Telegram dialog shows the three steps and an Open BotFather link. Fill in:

- Click Connect. Resool checks the token, connects the bot, sets its webhook and opens the channel page.
Open your bot in Telegram, send it a message and check that it appears in the Inbox.
How to configure Telegram
Open Settings › Channels and click Manage on the Telegram channel. The Configuration tab shows:
- Channel name: rename the channel and save with the save bar.
- The bot card: the bot's name and @username, the status (Connected, or Needs attention with the reason), an Open chat button that opens the bot in Telegram, and Refresh connection, which sets the bot's webhook again.
- Webhook: the address Telegram sends messages to. Resool sets it for you.
Settings › Channels › Telegram › Configuration

Routing, auto-assignment and satisfaction surveys are set in Channel settings. To remove the channel, click Delete channel under Danger zone and confirm. Past conversations stay.
Notes and limitations
- Only private chats with the bot come in. Messages in groups and channels where the bot is a member are ignored.
- A customer must message your bot first. Telegram bots can't start a conversation with someone who hasn't written to them.
- Bots can receive files up to 20 MB from customers.
- A Telegram bot sends its messages to one place only. Connecting it to Resool replaces any webhook another tool had set for the same bot.
- Each bot can be connected to one Resool workspace.
FAQ and troubleshooting
I see "That doesn't look like a valid token."
The token isn't in the format Telegram uses. Copy it again from BotFather: it's a number, a colon and a long string of letters, digits, - and _, with no spaces.
I see "The platform refused these credentials. Check them and try again."
Telegram didn't accept the token. It may have been revoked or regenerated in BotFather.
What you can do:
- In BotFather, send
/mybots, pick the bot and open API Token to copy the current token. - Try again with the new token.
Messages stopped arriving
Another tool may have set its own webhook for the same bot, or the token was revoked.
What you can do:
- Open the channel and click Refresh connection.
- If the status shows Needs attention because the token was revoked, delete the channel and connect it again with the new token.
Can the bot answer in Telegram groups?
No. Only private chats with the bot come into Resool.
