Odoo

Odoo is an open-source suite of business apps, including Invoicing and Accounting. Connecting Odoo to Resool shows each contact's Odoo customer, customer invoices and balance due next to the conversation, lets agents create customers and invoices from the inbox, and sends an invoice's PDF straight into the chat. Workflows can create customers and invoices in Odoo too. Odoo connects through the Resool app for Odoo, which you install in your Odoo database first.

What you can do with Odoo

In the Inbox and on the contact page

  • See the Odoo customer matched to the contact, with name, email and phone.
  • Balance due: what the customer still owes, per currency.
  • Invoices: each customer invoice with number, date, due date, total, the amount left to pay and its state: Paid, Unpaid, Overdue or Draft.
  • Send in chat: send the invoice PDF in the conversation with a short summary (invoice number, total and due date).
  • Create invoice and Create customer in Odoo from the panel.
  • View in Odoo to open the customer in Odoo.

In Workflows

  • Create invoice: create an Odoo customer invoice for the contact; later steps can send {{invoice.number}} and other invoice details.
  • Create customer: create the contact in Odoo, or find the matching one.

Before you begin

  • You need an Odoo database with the Invoicing (or Accounting) and Contacts apps, and an Odoo administrator who can install apps.
  • Your Odoo address must be reachable on the public internet over https, for example yourcompany.odoo.com.
  • In Resool, you must be an Owner or Admin of the workspace you connect.
  • Customers are matched to a contact by email address or phone number.

How Odoo connects

Odoo connects differently from other apps. You install the Resool app in Odoo, start the connection from Odoo, and approve it in Resool. The Resool app then creates a dedicated Odoo user with access to Contacts and Invoicing only, and its own API key. You don't copy or paste any key.

How to connect Odoo to Resool

  1. Go to Settings › Apps.
  2. Find Odoo under Available now (or open the Accounting tab) and click Connect. The Connect Odoo dialog shows two steps.

Install the Resool app in Odoo, then continue.
  1. Install the Resool app in Odoo: in Odoo, open Apps, search for "Resool" and install it. If it isn't listed, click Open the Odoo Apps Store in the dialog and get it from there.
  2. Back in Resool, click I installed it, continue.
  3. In Your Odoo address, enter the address you sign in to, like yourcompany.odoo.com, and click Open Odoo to connect. Odoo opens in a new tab.

Enter your Odoo address and open Odoo to connect.
  1. In Odoo, go to Settings › Resool and click Connect to Resool.
  2. Resool opens the Connect Odoo to Resool page. It shows your Odoo address and database. Choose the Workspace to connect and click Approve and connect.

Choose the workspace and approve the connection.
  1. Resool shows Returning to Odoo to finish… and sends you back to Odoo, which completes the setup. In Resool, the Odoo card now shows Connected with the Manage and Disconnect buttons.

How to configure Odoo

Click Manage on the Odoo card to open Odoo settings. Changes are saved with the save bar at the bottom; Discard reverts them.

Odoo settings.

Invoice defaults

  • Revenue account: shows From the sales journal. Odoo picks the income account from the sales journal and product, so there's nothing to choose here.
  • Tax rate: applied to invoice lines that don't pick a tax.
  • Due in: days from the invoice date until it's due. 0 means due on receipt.
  • Invoice status: Draft stays editable in Odoo; Finalized (issued) posts the invoice.

Customers

  • Create customer automatically: when an invoice is created for a contact with no matching Odoo customer, Resool creates one. When it's off, the invoice isn't created.

How to use Odoo in the Inbox

  1. Open a conversation and click the Odoo icon in the right-hand sidebar.
  2. Review the customer, Balance due and Invoices.
  3. Click Send in chat on a posted invoice to send its PDF, or Open to open it in Odoo.
  4. To bill the customer, click Create invoice, fill in the lines (Description, Qty, Unit price, Tax; up to 20 with Add item), set Due and Status, and click Create invoice.

If the contact isn't in Odoo yet, click Create customer. The same panel opens from the contact's page under Connected apps; sending in chat works from a conversation only.

How to use Odoo in Workflows

Add a step from the Accounting group:

  • Create invoice: set App to Odoo, add Items, and optionally set Currency, Due and Status, or keep Use app default. Later steps can use {{invoice.number}}, {{invoice.total}}, {{invoice.currency}}, {{invoice.due_date}}, {{invoice.status}} and {{invoice.id}}.
  • Create customer: the contact is matched in Odoo by email or phone; when there is no match a customer is created.

How to disconnect Odoo

Disconnect from either side:

  • In Resool: go to Settings › Apps, click Disconnect on the Odoo card and confirm.
  • In Odoo: go to Settings › Resool and disconnect there.

Either way, the API key Resool used is deleted in Odoo.

FAQ and troubleshooting

"That Odoo address can't be reached"

Resool must reach your Odoo over the public internet.

What you can do:

  • Use the public https address you sign in to, such as yourcompany.odoo.com.
  • If Odoo runs on your own server, make sure it's reachable from the internet over https.

The approve page was opened without the details Odoo sends. Start again from Settings › Resool in Odoo and click Connect to Resool.

"You need a workspace where you are an admin to connect Odoo"

Only workspace Owners and Admins can approve the connection. Ask an admin to complete step 7, or to give you the Admin role.

Does Resool get full access to my Odoo?

No. The Resool app creates a dedicated Odoo user limited to Contacts and Invoicing. Resool reads and creates contacts and customer invoices through that user only.
