Square

Square is a payments and point-of-sale (POS) platform for in-person and online sales. Connecting Square to Resool shows each contact's Square customer details and orders next to the conversation, lets agents create a Square payment link from the message composer and send it in the reply, and lets workflows start on Square order, payment and customer events, then complete or cancel orders and keep customers in sync.

What you can do with Square

In the composer

  • Create Square payment link: enter what the payment is for and the amount, and Resool adds a Square-hosted checkout link to your reply.

In the Inbox and on the contact page

  • Customer details: the contact's Square customer profile, such as total spent and number of orders.
  • Orders: the contact's orders with number, date, items, total, order state and payment status.
  • Open in Square to jump to your Square Dashboard orders.

In Workflows

  • Start a workflow on these Square events: Order Created, Order Updated, Order Status Changed, Order Paid, Order Cancelled, Order Refunded, Customer Created and Customer Updated.
  • Change Square with the Update order status and Create or update customer steps.

Before you begin

  • You need a Square seller account.
  • In Resool, only workspace Owners and Admins can connect apps.
  • Orders are matched to a contact through the Square customer with the same email address or phone number.

How to connect Square to Resool

  1. Go to Settings › Apps.
  2. Find Square under Available now (or open the Payments tab) and click Connect.
  3. The Connect Square dialog lists what Resool will be able to do: see and update your customers, see your orders and complete or cancel them, see payments and create payment links, and get instant updates. Click Continue.

Review what Resool can access in Square, then click Continue.
  1. Sign in to Square in the window that opens and allow access.
  2. You're returned to Resool and see Square connected. The card shows the Manage and Disconnect buttons.

How to configure Square

Click Manage on the Square card to open Square settings.

  • Store: the Square account connected to this workspace.
  • Contact panel: Orders are Always shown. Turn Customer details on or off, then save with the save bar at the bottom.
  • Live updates: shows whether order, payment and customer updates from Square reach Resool right away. If it says Live updates are off, click Refresh.
  • Open Square store opens your Square Dashboard.
  1. Open a conversation in the Inbox.
  2. In the message composer, click Create Square payment link.
  3. In What it's for, describe the payment. The customer sees this on the checkout page.
  4. Enter the Amount. It's charged in your Square account's currency.
  5. Click Create link. The link is added to your reply; edit the message if you like and send it.

The customer pays on Square's checkout page; the payment shows in your Square Dashboard.

How to use Square in the Inbox

  1. Open a conversation in the Inbox.
  2. Click the Square icon in the right-hand sidebar.

How to use Square in Workflows

Start a workflow on a Square event

  1. In Workflows, click the trigger, choose the E-commerce group and pick the Event.
  2. Set Store to Square (or Any connected store).
  3. For Order Status Changed, optionally pick Statuses.

Square order states map to Resool like this: Draft is Pending, Open is Confirmed, Completed is Completed and Canceled is Cancelled. A completed payment starts Order Paid, and a refund starts Order Refunded with {{order.refund_amount}}. The workflow runs for the contact with the customer's phone or email, and creates a contact when there is none.

Update Square from a workflow

Add a step from the Stores group and set Store to Square:

  • Update order status: Square orders can only be completed or cancelled from other apps. Completed and Delivered complete the order, and Cancelled cancels it. Other statuses can't be set in Square.
  • Create or update customer: the matching Square customer (same phone or email) is updated; otherwise a new one is created.

Square orders have no tags or notes for other apps, so Add order tag or note isn't available for Square.

How to disconnect Square

  1. Go to Settings › Apps and click Disconnect on the Square card.
  2. Confirm in the Disconnect Square? dialog.

Resool stops accessing your Square account and the payment link button disappears from the composer. Payment links you already sent keep working in Square.

FAQ and troubleshooting

Your Square account's currency. Enter the amount in that currency.

Why don't I see a contact's orders?

Orders are found through the Square customer with the same email or phone.

What you can do:

  • Make sure the order in Square is linked to a customer profile.
  • Add the email or phone from that Square customer to the contact, with the country code.

Can a workflow mark a Square order as shipped?

No. Square lets other apps only complete or cancel an order. Choose Completed or Cancelled.

Does Square have abandoned carts in Resool?

No. Square doesn't share abandoned carts, so the panel has no abandoned checkouts and the Abandoned Checkout trigger doesn't start for Square.
