Google Contacts

Google Contacts is the address book in your Google account. Connecting Google Contacts to Resool imports those contacts into Resool, matched by email or phone so you don't get duplicates, and keeps them in sync: every six hours, new and changed Google contacts come into Resool. Your edits in Resool are never overwritten, so it's a safe way to bring an existing customer list into your shared inbox.

What you can do with Google Contacts

In the background

  • Import the contacts saved in your Google account into Resool. The first import starts right after you connect.
  • Sync automatically every six hours, bringing in new and changed contacts.
  • Import now whenever you want an immediate sync.

In Settings

  • See when the Last import ran and how many contacts were added, updated, or unchanged or skipped.

Google Contacts has its own sign-in

Google Contacts is separate from Resool's main Google connection.

  • Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, Google Drive and Google Tasks share one Google connection.
  • Google Contacts has its own sign-in. You can use the same Google account or a different one.
  • Connecting or disconnecting Google Contacts doesn't affect Gmail, Sheets, Calendar, Drive or Tasks, and disconnecting those doesn't affect Google Contacts.

Resool only gets read-only access to your contacts. It never changes or deletes anything in Google.

Before you begin

  • You need the Google account whose contacts you want to import.
  • In Resool, only workspace Owners and Admins can connect apps, change the sync setting and run Import now.

Google Contacts asks only for read-only access to your contacts.
  1. Choose the Google account in the window that opens and allow access.
  2. You're returned to Resool and see Google Contacts connected. The first import starts right away.

How to configure Google Contacts

Click Manage on the Google Contacts card to open the Google Contacts settings.

  • Google account: the account contacts are read from (read-only).
  • Sync automatically: on by default. Every six hours, new and changed Google contacts come into Resool. Turn it off to import only when you click Import now.
  • Last import: when the last import ran, with how many contacts were added, updated, and unchanged or skipped.
  • How it works: a summary of the matching rules below.
  • Import now: runs an import immediately. When it finishes you see Import done with the numbers.

How contacts are matched

  • Each Google contact is matched to a Resool contact by email or phone.
  • No match: a new contact is created in Resool with the name, email and phone from Google.
  • Match found: the Resool contact only gets what it's missing (name, email or phone). Values you already have in Resool are never overwritten.
  • No email or phone: the Google contact is skipped.
  • Resool uses each Google contact's primary name, email and phone.

After the first import, later runs only read contacts that changed in Google.

How to disconnect Google Contacts

  1. Go to Settings › Apps and click Disconnect on the Google Contacts card.
  2. Confirm in the Disconnect Google Contacts? dialog.

Syncing stops. Contacts already imported stay in Resool. Your other Google apps keep working.

FAQ and troubleshooting

Will Google Contacts overwrite changes my team made in Resool?

No. A matched contact only gets the fields it's missing. Your edits in Resool stay.

If I delete a contact in Google, is it deleted in Resool?

No. Deleted Google contacts are skipped. Delete the contact in Resool if you need to.

The Last import says "Google refused the connection".

What you can do:

  • Disconnect Google Contacts and connect it again with the same Google account.
  • Make sure you didn't remove Resool's access from your Google account's security settings.

The Last import says "Google Contacts didn't answer".

Google didn't respond. Resool tries again on the next sync, or you can click Import now later.

Do I need to connect Google Contacts if Gmail is already connected?

Yes. Google Contacts uses a separate sign-in, so connect it on its own card.
