Sales Pipelines

Resool Team · · 3 min read

A sales pipeline is the list of stages your deals move through, from the first contact to the close. In Resool you can create as many pipelines as you need (for example one per product line or market), give each one its own stages and currency, and set each stage's probability of closing so the deals board can show a weighted forecast.

Before you begin

  • Pipelines are part of Deals, available on the Growth and Scale plans.
  • You need the Create and edit deals permission to manage pipelines. Owners, Admins, Managers and Agents have it by default.

The default pipeline

Every workspace has at least one pipeline. The first one is created for you, named Sales, with these stages:

StageProbability
New lead10%
Contacted30%
Proposal60%
Negotiation80%

In a workspace set to Arabic, the stage names are in Arabic. The currency is your workspace's default currency, set in Workspace settings.

How to open pipeline settings

Go to Settings › Sales pipelines, or click the settings icon (Pipeline settings) at the top of the Deals page. Each pipeline is listed with its currency and its stages with their probabilities.

How to create a pipeline

  1. In Settings › Sales pipelines, click New pipeline.
  2. Enter the Pipeline name.
  3. Choose the Currency. Deal values in this pipeline use it unless a deal picks another currency.
  4. Add your stages. For each stage, enter a name and a Probability from 0 to 100%. Click Add stage for more.
  5. Drag the stages by their handles to put them in order, from the first to the last step before closing.
  6. Click Save changes.

Choosing probabilities

The probability is the chance that a deal in that stage is won. It weights the forecast: a 50% stage counts half of each deal's value in the Weighted forecast. Start with your best estimate and adjust it once the Sales report shows your real win rate per stage.

How to edit a pipeline

  1. Click Edit next to the pipeline.
  2. Rename it, change the currency, rename stages, change probabilities, reorder stages or add new ones.
  3. Click Save changes. Deals keep their stage when you rename or reorder stages.

To remove a stage, click its remove button. A stage that still has deals can't be removed: "Move the deals out of a stage before removing it."

How to delete a pipeline

Click the delete button next to the pipeline and confirm. Only an empty pipeline can be deleted, and a workspace always keeps at least one pipeline.

Notes and limitations

  • A pipeline has 1 to 20 stages. Two stages in the same pipeline can't have the same name.
  • Stage names can be up to 60 characters, and pipeline names up to 80.
  • Changing a pipeline's currency doesn't convert existing deal values.

FAQ and troubleshooting

I get "Move or delete this pipeline's deals first"

The pipeline still has deals, including won and lost ones. Open each deal and delete it (Delete deal in the ⋯ menu), then delete the pipeline. Deals can't be moved to another pipeline.

Can different teams use different pipelines?

Yes. Create a pipeline per team or product and switch between them with the pipeline menu on the Deals page and in the Sales report. All pipelines are visible to everyone who can see deals.

Why doesn't the forecast change when I win a deal?

The forecast only counts open deals. Won deals move to Won this month and the Sales report.
