Contact Fields

Resool Team · · 5 min read

Contact fields let you store information about your customers beyond name, email and phone, such as their plan, city, birthday or customer ID. Resool has built-in fields for every contact and lets you add your own custom fields for people and for companies. You can fill them in by hand, from imports, workflows, AI Agents or connected apps, then use them to filter contacts, build segments and personalise broadcasts.

Before you begin

  • Anyone who can see contacts can open Settings › Contact fields.
  • Adding, editing and deleting custom fields for people needs Create and edit contacts. Company fields need Create and edit clients.
  • Hiding, showing or renaming a built-in field is a workspace setting, so it needs an Owner or Admin.

The Contact fields page

Go to Settings › Contact fields. The page has two tabs:

  • People: fields saved on each contact.
  • Companies: fields saved on each company. See Companies.

The table lists the built-in fields (marked Built-in) together with your custom fields, with their Name, Field ID, Description, Type, Visibility and Date added. Use Search contact fields to find one.

The built-in people fields are Phone, Email, Country, Language, Companies and Internal notes. They can't be deleted, but you can rename or hide them.

How to add a custom field

  1. Go to Settings › Contact fields and choose the People or Companies tab.
  2. Click Add Custom Field.
  3. Fill in the dialog:
    • Name: what your team sees, for example "Birthday" or "Customer ID".
    • Field ID: the key used in imports and the API. Lowercase letters, numbers and _ only. It can't change after creation.
    • Type: one of the types below. It can't change after creation.
    • Description (Optional): when the team should use the field.
    • Visibility (people only): where the field shows in the contact panel of a conversation.
    • Show in Contact details (or Show in Company details): whether the field appears in the Inbox panel. The contact or company page always shows it.
    • Options: for Dropdown fields, type each option and click Add.
  4. Click Add.

How to edit, rename or hide a field

FAQ and troubleshooting

Can I change a field's type after creating it?

No. The type and the Field ID are fixed. Create a new field with the right type, move the values (for example with an export and import), then delete the old one.

Why can't I add fields?

Your role doesn't include Create and edit contacts (or Create and edit clients for company fields).

Why can't I rename or hide a built-in field?

Only Owners and Admins can change built-in fields, because it affects the whole workspace.

What's the difference between Visibility and Show in Contact details?

Both control the Inbox panel only. The contact page always lists every field. Use Visibility to decide when the field appears in the panel, and the switch to remove it from the panel's details completely.
