Google Drive

Google Drive is Google's file storage. Connecting Google Drive to Resool adds From Google Drive to the composer's attach menu, so agents can pick price lists, brochures, contracts or guides from Drive and send their links to a customer on any channel without downloading and re-uploading files. Resool can make the picked files viewable by anyone with the link, so the customer can open them.

What you can do with Google Drive

In the Inbox

  • Attach › From Google Drive: open Google's file picker, choose up to 10 files and insert their links into your message. Each file goes in as one line with its name and link.

In Settings

  • Sharing: choose whether picked files become viewable by anyone with the link, or keep their existing Drive sharing.

Resool only accesses the files you pick. It can't browse or read the rest of your Drive.

One Google connection for several apps

Google Drive, Google Sheets and Google Tasks share one Google connection with Gmail and Google Calendar. When you connect any of them, you sign in to Google once and all of them are connected with the same Google account. Disconnecting any of these cards disconnects them all.

Google Contacts is the exception: it has its own sign-in and doesn't affect the others.

Before you begin

  • You need a Google account that can open the files you want to send.
  • In Resool, only workspace Owners and Admins can connect apps and change the sharing setting.
  • If Gmail, Google Sheets or Google Calendar is already connected, Google Drive is connected too. Open Manage to check that Drive access was granted.

How to connect Google Drive to Resool

  1. Go to Settings › Apps.
  2. Open the Productivity tab and click Connect on the Google Drive card.
  3. The Connect Google Drive dialog shows the Google permissions and notes that one Google connection covers several Google apps. Click Continue.
  4. Choose your Google account in the window that opens and allow the requested access, including access to the Drive files you pick.
  5. You're returned to Resool and see Google connected.

How to configure Google Drive

Click Manage on the Google Drive card to open the Google Drive settings.

  • Drive access: shown only when your Google connection was made before Drive was available. You see Drive access not granted. Click Grant access and approve in Google once.
  • Connected account: the Google account in use, with Ready when the file picker is available.
  • Sharing: Anyone with the link can view. When on, attached files become viewable by anyone with the link so contacts can open them. Off keeps Drive's existing sharing.
  • How it works: Attach › From Google Drive. Pick up to 10 files; their links go into your message.

How to send a Google Drive file in a conversation

  1. Open a conversation in the Inbox.
  2. In the composer, click the Attach files button and choose From Google Drive.

The attach menu open above the composer with "Select file from device", "From Google Drive" (with the Drive logo) and the other options.

Attach files from Google Drive in the composer.
  1. In Google's file picker, select up to 10 files (shared drives are included) and click Select.
  2. The file names and links are inserted into your message. Add any text you like and send it.

If Anyone with the link can view is on, Resool updates the picked files' sharing so the customer can open them. If it's off, the customer needs access in Drive already.

How to disconnect Google Drive

  1. Go to Settings › Apps and click Disconnect on the Google Drive card.
  2. Confirm in the Disconnect Google? dialog.

This disconnects the whole Google connection: Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, Google Drive and Google Tasks all stop working until you connect again. Google Contacts is not affected. Links you already sent keep the sharing they had.

Notes and limitations

  • Up to 10 files per pick.
  • Resool sends links, not file copies. The customer opens the file in Google Drive.
  • Resool only accesses files you pick in the picker.

FAQ and troubleshooting

I don't see "From Google Drive" in the attach menu.

The option appears only when Google is connected. Ask an Owner or Admin to connect Google Drive in Settings › Apps.

I see "Drive access isn't granted yet".

Your Google connection predates Drive. An Owner or Admin opens Settings › Apps › Google Drive › Manage and clicks Grant access once.

The customer can't open the file.

What you can do:

  • Turn on Anyone with the link can view in Google Drive settings and send the file again.
  • Or share the file with the customer's Google account in Drive.

Does Resool see my other Drive files?

No. Resool only accesses the files you pick in Google's picker.
